BPOs decide location on City personality

BPOs are now known to decide on the location of business on the basis of the personality of a city.

Experts reveal that accounting related outsourcing projects are most likely to be awarded to Chennai or Kolkata, with a general belief in a higher familiarity with numbers associated with the residents. A high number of graduates are seen to be registered with ICAI in the cities.

Bangalore city is considered ideal for locating technical help desks. The availability of a large number of people with IT skills and basic understanding of computers makes it the best place for IT support. Companies interested in the first level of support choose Bangalore over other cities.

In the BPO industry, the country is divided into two regions based on the accent culture. Cities in the North and Mumbai come under the accent neutral region, and voice-related processes are generally outsourced here. Other parts of the country are more useful for non-voice transactions as they are considered accent dominant regions.

Thus Hyderabad and Pune may therefore be ruled out for voice-based transactions, but are very useful for any transaction processing outsourcing. Companies looking for outsourcing account opening or insurance-related work choose these two cities. Attention to details is seen as a positive personality trait for both with both Hyderabad and Pune residents. Pune however scores over Hyderabad in the area of attrition.

Mumbai, India’s financial centre, is most popular for equity related transactions. Several investments banks, looking for equity research outsourcing-related work, have chosen Mumbai. So also Capital market-related work is more likely to be outsourced to Mumbai.
