Godrej’s Lawkin Upstream to acquire Upstream

Lawkin Upstream
Contact Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of
the Godrej group, has signed an agreement with Upstream
LLC to acquire the latter for an all-cash deal of
over $ 6 million. With this acquisition, Godrej
becomes the first company to acquire and operate
a major call centre in the US market. |

Bank launches a subsidiary in UK |

ICICI Bank launched
its wholly owned banking subsidiary into the UK,
which would focus on commercial banking support
to small and medium corporates, trade finance and
corporate finance and syndication. ICICI Bank is
also piloting the "India Banking Service"
for NRIs in partnership with Lloyds TSB. |

to move high value jobs to its BPO Centres in Asia

HSBC plans to move
more high value jobs such as research and analytics,
software development, training, audit and financial
reconciliation to its BPO centres in India, China
and Malaysia. HSBC already employs more than 5000
people outside the bank in India alone. |

global to increase staff strength |

SSA global, the
number one provider of ERP solutions for the manufacturing
and mid market sectors and the fourth largest ERP
provider in the world, is planning to increase its
Indian staff strength by 30 percent over the next
few years. This follows the company’s acquisition
of Baan India. Company officials stated “India
is important to the overall corporate strategy.
We will leverage on the India operations by shifting
some development work to the development centre
at Hyderabad”. |

Motors opens R&D Centre in Bangalore

General Motors recently
announced setting up of its research and development
unit in Bangalore. This centre will be the first
such unit outside the US. In India, GM has more
than 30 research projects in India at present. The
projects are established to supplement the on-going
work within GM in critical research areas and help
to accelerate the pace of innovation. |

Microsystems to expand operations in India

The US-based leading
information technology major Sun Microsystems is
considering a proposal to expand its operations
in India by recruiting more people and bringing
more investments into its software development centre
at Bangalore. Placing India highly as a destination
for investment in sales, Robert Youngjohns, executive
vice-president, global sales operations, Sun Microsystems,
said the country is at number three in terms of
sales investment after China and the US, globally. |
